Almost 75 percent of College Student Have Acne!

Believe it or not; almost 75 percent of the university and college Students suffer from the direct and indirect consequences of having acne, says a survey study conducted by a group of researchers from Department of Internal Medicine, Mayo Hospital, Lahore and published in the July 2011 issue of the Journal of the College of Physicians and Surgeons -Pakistan.

In this particular study, the researchers aimed to assess and evaluate the impact of acne to late adolescent and adult students. They conducted a cross-sectional study in four institutions. They distributed questionnaires containing Cardiff Acne Disability Index (CADI) to 950 students belonging to the age range of 17 to 28 years old and asked them to answer each question sincerely. This population was then examined for the possible presence of acne. Their acne lesions were then graded depending on severity.

The researchers found that 74.6 percent of university and college students have acne problems. The severity difference between genders was not statistically significant. However, more females feels the psychosocial impact of having acne compared to their male counterparts.
